Closing the Deal

  • Now that you have created a listing that received enough attention for you to choose a potential buyer to sell to, how are you going to close the deal? Make sure you go through each offer and consider them. Choose one that satisfies you and meets the expectations you had before listing your item. Unless you have to, don’t ever sell the item just to sell it. Make sure you are happy with the outcome also.

  • Establish contact with the buyer first over email. Get their name and phone number and contact them to establish a place to complete the transaction. Discuss the method of payment and answer any other questions they might have. Make sure the details of the transaction are clear. You do not want to meet and be ready to complete the transaction and then something that was assumed by one of the parties to be true is not. This confusion can ruin one of the parties interest in the transaction and can set back the sale of your item a great deal.

  • Make sure when every detail is settled, you pick a public place to complete the transaction. Even if you are selling something large like a car or a boat, you will be better off being public to complete the transaction. Meet in the parking lot of a grocery store or local gas station. The most important thing on your mind should be your own safety first. The majority of people in this world are all around good, but you can not always rely on that. Be safe! Stay public!

  • Once you have completed the transaction, offer to let the buyer call you to handle any questions or concerns related to the item in the transaction. Everything might not always stay perfect after completion of the transaction, so put forth effort to leave on a positive note. This way if something does go wrong, everything can be smoothly worked out and fixed in a manner positive for both parties. Everything is salvageable to a point as long as the relationship remains strong.
