Writing the Perfect Ad

  • Short ads work better

    • People Tend to lose interest after so long. Be sure to include a picture and a detailed but short description that will get straight to the point will work better. You don’t want to drag the interested viewer along.

  • Make the title catchy!

    • Your goal is to have the person looking through the ads want to stop and look at your ad for more details. You usually only get one chance to have someone stop at your ad, make sure you make the most out of it!
    • Use eye-catching adjectives (amazing, great, attractive, limited, etc) to make the potential buyer stop and consider what you are offering.

  • Add a picture!

    • A picture makes the ad unique. It creates the greatest amount of initial attention and is one of the best ways to show detail for your ad.
    • People are very visually stimulated and the picture is quite often the first thing looked at when browsing through the ads. Include a high-quality image to attract the most initial attention.

  • Include any related items

    • If you are selling something that comes with extra parts or related items include them in one listing to improve the appearance of it. For example, if you are selling a video game system, include all the controllers, games, and other accessories in one listing. Account for each item in the price and make sure to detail everything included. This will ensure everything sells, but it will also bring in extra attention for including more than one item.

  • Be specific!

    • Make sure you specify every detail possible in your description. More details will attract more potential buyers, and it can also prevent an unhappy final outcome after the sale completion. If something is brand name, specify its brand. If it’s a certain model, give all the details to set it apart from the rest.

  • Do not overhype your ad!

    • Adding too much hype doesn’t work anymore on real potential buyers. State all of the necessary real details, but add certain words to make it stand out. People are quite often turned off by overhyped ads and actually don’t trust the seller because of them.

  • Urge the reader to act now

    • One way to garner extra attention to your ad is by using phrases such as “won’t last long,” “this week only,” and any other phrase that could add a sense of urgency. It can make the buy feel the need to act quickly as to not lose out of this opportunity. One key with this tactic is to be realistic, though.

  • Would you be interested in your ad?

    • One of the simplest methods for checking how eye-catching or interesting your ad is is by simply asking yourself “Would this ad catch my attention?” You have to be honest with yourself when trying this exercise or else it won’t do you any good. If you think you are being too bias ask someone around you and tell them to be honest. Sometimes an outside opinion is just what you need!
