The Buyer's Checklist
- Feel confident in your knowledge about the item you are purchasing?
- If your answer is no here, do research! The best decision is an informed decision.
- Look through all of your choices to see which is best for you.
- Never simply decide to purchase the very first item you see. Find the one that is best for you. An impulse decision is an uninformed decision.
- Contact the seller with your offer or attempt to negotiate
- Negotiating can’t hurt. A seller is not going to eliminate you as a potential buyer just because you make a negotiating attempt. In many cases, sellers expect to negotiate the price of their item some and take that in consideration when they decide on an initial price.
- If a deal has been struck, agree on a method to purchase the item.
- As mentioned in other tips, completing the transaction in person is the most advisable method for completion. The most important questions though is: “Will you feel safe meeting at this place?”
- You must make an honest decision whether or not you feel comfortable with all aspects of the transaction. You cannot allow yourself to feel pressured into the transaction. If you do not feel comfortable with it, don’t buy it! There will always be another item to purchase.
- The most important part to check off is that you are happy with everything. If you aren’t, even if the transaction has been completed, do not hesitate to let the seller know. The seller should be willing to work with you.
